My name is Mindy Goodman. I started my journey to become a educational consultant and a parent coach through my own experiences with my family. When I thought of having children, my hopes and dreams for them never included the phone calls that began in preschool, the multiple rounds of doctors, the therapists, and the contentious IEP meetings.
I was a tireless advocate for my son in the autism spectrum, who is also severely learning disabled. I fought to obtain services for him both through the school system and now with adult services in the working world. We were successful in obtaining a non public therapeutic school placement, where he made lifelong friends and graduated from high school. Another child, had as many needs and even more questions than answers. Things came to the point where he ultimately attended Wilderness Therapy and then a residential treatment center. He successfully completed his program and is living his best life. I have watched him grow into a successful adult. The insights into himself and the coping skills that were learned while away, have been invaluable as he has faced the inevitable road bumps of life that everyone faces. I have walked in your shoes, felt what you feel, and I understand what you are going through. I am there for you throughout your family's journey.
Being a parent who has walked this journey was not the only reason that I chose this career path. My career started out in the business world. As a CPA (license retired), I found that I loved helping people. My strengths include being a strong advocate and an amazing researcher. Skills I have from the business world in working with families have easily transferred to the therapeutic world. I also have a life long love learning. I continue to immerse myself in classes, webinars, and conference trainings. I regularly attend trainings alongside social workers and therapists earning CEU credits. I have carried that love of learning and helping, into a love of working with families both in crisis and families in need of support. Whether it is helping a family assemble their own team of support, finding the right school or therapeutic environment, or supporting a child from the beginning of the process and watching them blossom, nothing is more rewarding. I travel extensively to visit, evaluate, and get to know programs. I meet the people who work with your children and see where they will live, attend school and heal. I am a proud professional member of IECA. I graduated from the IECA's Summer Training Institute, 2014. I am currently a member of the IECA Board of Directors.
I have been a volunteer with The Balanced Mind Parent Parent Network, a division of The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. As a peer mentor, I co-moderated the Residential Support Group for over a decade.. I help and support families who are considering residential placement; support those whose loved ones are in residential placement or transitioning home from residential placement.
I am a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs. I annually attend Capitol Hill Advocacy Days, speaking to our legislators on all issues regarding our children's well being. I have presented at NATSAP on how to reframe success when working with people with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
I have graduated from Maryland Coalition of Family; Family Leadership Institute. I am a member NATSAP, NAMI, ATTACh, Attachment Trauma Network and The Learning Disability Association.
I completed my parent coach training with Parent Coach Trainers Academy. I love coaching and find plenty of time to coach even when I am on the road touring programs! I recently completed the course, Coaching Teens and Young Adults with ADHD with Jodi Sleeper Triplett,, one of the foremost ADHD coaches and trainers in the country. I was honored to be in her class. Both courses are International Coach Federation (ICF) accredited.
My most recent journey is one of a more spiritual nature. I have walked the Andean Medicine Wheel. I am in full Shamanic Practitioner Training. I have added Shamanic Coaching as well as a full Shamanic Practice to my coaching practice.
I accept no fees from any program and remain impartial.
My passion is empowering parents. Partner with me to empower your family.
