What is an Independent Educational Consultant?

A therapeutic educational consultant helps families to find a program or school that is the right fit for your child or family member's unique needs.  In the therapeutic world, an educational consultant works with youth, teens, and adults, both in and out of school.   An Independent Educational Consultant travels extensively to tour and evaluate programs as well as build therapeutic relationships.  There is a lot of information on the internet about residential programs. A great website does mean a great program.  Conversely, a terrible website may hide a wonderful program.  In addition, not all programs are the right fit for each person.   An Independent Educational Consultant goes behind the websites to find the hidden gems which meets high standards and are a good fit for your family member's therapeutic needs.  All programs offer therapy.  All programs for teens offer education.  So what makes one program right for your situation over another one.  This is where an consultant has the expertise to help guide your family in what may be a very stressful time.   As an Independent Educational Consultant I do not accept any fees or compensation from any school, program or institution.

Depression                                                                                                             Self Harm Behaviors
Family System Issues                                                                                           Substance Abuse Disorders
                                                                                                                                 Trauma Based Disorders

We believe that behaviors are both a symptom and a form of communication.  Many times behavioral symptoms can cross over one or more of these disorders.  Often, children can struggle with organization, the ability to transition, and become overwhelmed and easily frustrated.  They often blame others, have a lack of insight, are unable to follow through, have poor social skills, destructive behaviors, become manipulative, have a sense of entitlement, and even legal issues.  Treatment out of the home can help to sort out exactly what is going on and where it is coming from.  It removes the stress of everyday life and helps to replace unhealthy ways of coping with new and healthy coping tools.  Sending your child to treatment is one of the hardest decisions that a parent can make.  And yet, it is the ultimate gift that parents can give their child.  It can truly be the road to health and healing.
